Kids for Kids Tennis Tournament
May 2, 2009 at the Ridgeland Tennis Center
The MTA marketing committee is pleased to announce that Cellular South will continue their Title Sponsorship for the 4th annual Mississippi Kids for Kids/Mississippi Children’s Museum Junior Charity Tournament. Cellular South is the nation’s largest privately owned wireless communications provider.
“We’re excited to be partnering with two organizations that are helping to support the academic and athletic growth of Mississippi children,” said Jim Richmond, Director of Corporate Communications for Cellular South. Richmond said the tournament also will provide an opportunity for Cellular south to promote its statewide GamePlan initiative, which is designed to inspire, prepare and inform high school student-athletes about the possibilities of reaching their dreams through academic excellence. “Our program stresses the importance of staying in school and obtaining a good education and the possibilities and potential that creates for students.” Richmond says. “This venue will be a wonderful opportunity to help spread this message.”
“This is the 4th of a five year partnership with The Mississippi Children’s Museum and we hope to raise more money than we did last year,” Laura Townsend, Chairman of the committee says. “The fit with the Children’s Museum and a Kids Charity Tournament go together perfectly,” continues Townsend. “We are very pleased that Cellular South is joining us again as the Title Sponsor.
Construction is well underway on the Mississippi Children’s Museum, located at Lefleur’s Bluff State Park in Jackson. It will be a 40,000 square foot facility with gallery exhibits focusing on Mississippi Heritage, Health and Nutrition, Literacy, Cultural Arts and Science and Technology. The signature exhibit will be a 5000 square foot Mississippi Climbing Map. Children will be able to crawl over, under and through a topographical map of Mississippi. “We are so honored to be supported by this tournament which has raised over $27,000 to date. It has played a vital part in helping us meet more than 80% of our fundraising goal.” Says Susan Garrard, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum. The Museum is set to open in Fall 2010.
